PIC celebrates 25th Anniversary

PIC celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year, more precisely 3 August 2011. During this time, we have maintained focus on providing user-friendly and reliable solutions to the transport industry, allowing all parties in the chain of transport to automate tasks, manage workflows and improve productivity. It remains the only system in the market integrating all parties in a transport community network for efficient information sharing.

The first steps towards PIC were taken in 1984 when we started developing a system for managing containers at the container terminal in Aarhus, Denmark, in close cooperation with the customer and user, the stevedoring company Aarhus Stevedore Kompagni. The system was taken into use 3 August 1986.

From the very beginning, focus has been on developing an information platform where all transport information is collected and made available to the relevant parties in the chain of transport. Due to the nature of the transport industry, PIC has from day one been designed as an interactive, web-based system in order for our customers to access the system from anywhere – computers, mobiles and handheld units – providing our customers with a flexible and low-cost tool for their daily business.

Since the implementation in 1986 we have enjoyed a strong customer loyalty; we have long-term relationships with all our customers. During the years we have experienced a steady growth in the number of customers and today PIC is used at all major terminals and depots in Denmark as well as at terminals in Norway and Sweden.

The 25th anniversary will be celebrated at an informal get-together later this year.

PIC allows the terminal to communicate with all parties in the intermodal chain of transport and to re-use information across terminals and depots. With the APM Terminals – Cargo Service terminal joining the PIC transport community network, PIC is now used at all major terminals and depots in Denmark, handling more than 1.200.000 units on a yearly basis.

InPort A/S changes its name to PICit A/S and sells its subsidiary InPort AB

InPort A/S changes its name to PICit A/S in order to communicate our products more evidently. Additionally, it is decided to sell our Swedish subsidiary InPort AB in order to increase our focus on customers and products of PICit A/S. The purchaser is the Port of Helsingborg that has acquired InPort AB on and after 1st of October 2010.

PICit A/S meets an exciting future in which operation and ongoing development of our systems still is first priority. Our customers will still experience a modern, efficient and mobile real-time system – whatever they use our PIC or GTS system.

”In connection with the sale of InPort AB, we have ensured that PIC users can book transports and services related to terminals and depots using InPort AB solutions at the beginning of 2011. This means an expansion of our OneStop Community, which precisely has as objective to make communication and cooperation more efficient between the different actors no matter their choice of system. Specifically, the expansion will make it possible for PIC users to reach an additional 20 Swedish terminals such as Helsingborg and Norrköping. The implementation towards these terminals will continually take place, which is why PIC users are welcome to contact us about this matter. It is of course still possible for PIC users to book from their own internal system, use EDI, and/or use our OneStopBooking solution for this purpose”, says Finn Nørgaard, Managing Director, PICit A/S.
