Our Origin Story
PICit’s journey began in 1984 with the development of a pioneering system for managing container operations at the Aarhus container terminal in Denmark. From the outset, the solution was interactive and designed with the entire transport chain in mind, offering online access to all stakeholders through a centralized information hub.
Over the decades, PICit has built a strong reputation for delivering user-friendly, reliable, and cost-effective solutions tailored to the transport and logistics industry. Our clients benefit from real-time access to the right information – at the right place – at the right time. Behind every solution is a dedicated team of skilled programmers, engineers, and technicians who are committed to ensuring high standards of availability, security, and performance.
To sustain and build on this legacy of expertise, PICit underwent a significant transition in 2016. The company was acquired by three senior employees - Henrik Højen Andersen, Karsten Gitter, and Stig Rune Skaarup - who continued to drive the company forward with deep industry expertise and a shared vision for the future.
In 2024, PICit received a strategic growth investment from Arcadea Group, a global private equity firm known for its long-term commitment to software businesses. This partnership marked a new chapter focused on accelerating product development and expanding PICit’s presence in both domestic and international markets.
The Beginning
The origins of what would become PICit A/S began with the development of a container handling system for the ÅSK terminal in Aarhus. This led to the creation of PICaar – a comprehensive software suite designed for terminal operations.
Software as a Service
The foundation for the system structure was established with the transition to a Software as a Service (SaaS) architecture. This period saw significant activity within the customs domain, resulting in the development of specialized solutions for customs handling and pre-shipment inspection.
PICmobile
PICit A/S expanded its product portfolio with the development and launch of PICmobile - a mobile application designed to serve as an intuitive, on-the-go interface to the PIC system. With PICmobile, users can access key functionalities and real-time data directly from their mobile devices, enabling greater flexibility, improved responsiveness, and enhanced operational efficiency across transport and logistics workflows.
Change of Ownership
PICit A/S underwent a Management Buyout (MBO), during which Karsten Gitter, Stig Rune Skaarup, and Henrik Højen Andersen became partners and assumed responsibility for the company’s day-to-day operations. At the time of the transition, PICit A/S had a dedicated team of 12 employees.
Strategic Growth Investment
PICit A/S received a strategic growth investment from Arcadea Group, a long-term investor in global software companies. The partnership aims to accelerate product development and support continued expansion in both domestic and international markets.
